Jason L. Porter - Writing, etc.

A place to share my writing and thinking.

Jason L. Porter is a writer living and working in San Diego, California. His works of fiction comprise predominantly novels for young adults, though he has been known to write the occasional middle grade book. He also writes personal essays and blog entries. His writing process consists of early mornings, layers of sweatshirts, and usually black tea, although every now and then some baked good crumbs make their way into his keyboard.

The Blue Signal Wins Writer's Day Award

Jason's young adult novel, The Blue Signal, was awarded first runner-up in the Young Adult Fiction category at the 2013 Southern California SCBWI Writer's Day Conference.

Here’s what that contest judge had to say about the book: “If it hadn't snowed that day, everything might have been different. A beautiful, wild teenage girl who burned too bright might still be alive. This is a quiet story, the beginning of a thoughtful exploration of how tragedy can impact a community, and how young people, at an age when they feel immortal, are forced to confront the reality of loss. THE BLUE SIGNAL's experimental narration style, vivid descriptions, and poignant observations kept me riveted.”
